Seven San Diegans Chosen for County Grand Jury
The seven are part of a group of 19 county residents who will be on the grand jury through June 30, 2014.
Seven San Diegans been chosen to serve on the 2013-14 San Diego County Grand Jury.
The seven are part of a group of 19 county residents who will be on the grand jury through June 30, 2014. Officials solicited applications countywide and narrowed the choices to 77 qualified applicants, a pool from which the 19 were chosen.
Gregory L. Ny, a 63-year-old a retired construction management company owner from San Diego, was appointed the foreman. The other San Diego residents chosen come from a variety of backgrounds, including education, nursing and volunteering.
The grand jury is responsible for investigating local government, from corruption allegations to the management of local prisons. Grand jurors must be at least 18 years old and able to serve a minimum of six hours a day, four days a week throughout the one-year term. They are paid a per diem of $25.
The newest cohort includes residents from San Diego (seven); Vista (three); Chula Vista (two); and one each from Carlsbad, Coronado, El Cajon, Escondido, Poway, Santee and Spring Valley.
"As a 'watchdog' for the citizens of [San Diego County], I am hopeful that this grand jury will be able to make an impact on the system and address the citizens' complaints in a manner that will both help the community and make the [affected] agency or organizations a better place," Ny said in a statement.
