Who needs cable or satellite? Over-the-air digital TV is a whole new world, and it's free! With aRead More $50 converter and $50 to $100 for a roof antenna and lead in cable you can watch all the local over-the-air digital channels. And unless you are in a deep canyon you can also get dozens of Los Angeles digital stations. Most of the digital stations have sub-channels that run sports, old time TV shows, old time movies and other specialized programming. I'm sure you've heard Larry Himmel advertising Channel 8-2.

Taking my cue from TWC's refusal to show the SDSU games on the MWC channel, I left them last yearRead More after 20+ years with them and SWC. I switched to DirectTV and couldn't be happier. I not only get my Padres, but also much more content than TWC offers. The FSSD Padre games are so much better than the Channel 4 games of years past--better production, better pre-game and post-game shows, etc. TWC loyalists are missing some good programming, and (sometimes) some good baseball.

Why are we spending $600k+ preparing for an event that has an extremely slim chance of happening?!Read More It's like spending money preparing for a tornado in SoCal - sure it could happen, but it's highly unlikely. All of this spending may still not even provide sufficient protection - door locks and window tint offer very little help if a gunman shows up during lunchtime or at the Friday flag assembly. I believe that spending the $600k on mental health services in the schools would go much further in PREVENTING a catastrophe like Sandy Hook from happening in PUSD.

Every time that I see PUSD spending money, I want to know "Where is this money comingRead More from?" Do we have $600K sitting around burning a hole in someone's pocket?

Just hang out near a trolley station.

So La Mesa is a crime- ridden ghetto...??? Never hear that before...!!! Been there a few timesRead More didn't seem that Bad...!!!

So, they are going to turn UTC into a crime-ridden ghetto just like La Mesa? Freeways are the bestRead More transprotation system ever invented. You can go anywhere you want to go anytime of the day or night. The Constitution provides freedom on paper. The automobile companies, oil companies and freeway system provide freedom in practice. If you use the trolley you can only go where they go and only during their hours of operation, a 10pm transportation curfew. The trolley system relies on gasoline tax revenue to exist. Once all the cars are off the road how will the trolley system support itself? It doesn't even bring in enough ticket revenue to pay for the broken windows. (There is a section of track in Logan Heights called "The Horseshoe" where rock throwing is a nightly occurence).

What I'm saying is that if someone complained while the students were filming the video on schoolRead More property, THAT'S harassment. Watching a youtube video where "twerking" is in the title is like having a video that says "naked body parts" in the title and saying "Umphh, I'm offended that I watched a video that showed skin." JUST CHANGE THE CHANNEL!!! DON'T WATCH IT!!! If they played this in the school on a tv in the main office area where unsuspecting folks could see it, that's a legitimate sexual harassment case. Now, the "humping a wall" is kind of silly. I think it's stupid but if this is the worst thing they've done, cut them some slack. They probably won't do this again. Strange that the video is still up on youtube so apparently the lords of youtube don't see it as being extreme. My opinion is that the school is embarrassed, the kids used school equipment to film it, and the school can't think of anything legitimate to chastise them so they're going to label them as sexual deviants, a charge that will be on their permanent record. Suspending them for two days is fine. They deserve some punishment for filming using school equipment on school grounds (unless the person who gave them the camera was a school employee and knew what was going on, in which case he/she should be suspended for a month). Hopefully their parents are giving them more grief than the school ever could. Now if one of them had eaten a pop tart into the shape of a gun, we could have locked them up for life!

At what point does public exposure become indecent? Is humping a wall considered an artfulRead More expression with free speech implications? Is this the level of morality we want our children to express and be exposed to? I have no answers, just questions.
Joe St. Lucas May 16, 2013 at 11:49 am
I don't understand this "sexual harassment" thing. Who was harassed? The students makingRead More the video wouldn't complain. If you watched the video on youtube, you "volunteered" to watch it. If you saw the video on TV, the TV station should be responsible for showing "harassing" material. That's like going into an F-Street bookstore (RIP) and claiming you're harassed by what they sell.

The police were flying helicopters overhead with bullhorns, searching for a 12 year old blond headedRead More boy who was reported as having started the fire, and run away.
