I am not too keen on Common Core because I believe it decreases the diversity in our children'sRead More education. In my district, they are removing classes that are considered remedial (physical science, extended algebra) and requiring them to take the more stringent Physics and Algebra sequences. There is nothing wrong with that per se but it will lead to much higher failure rates in those classes and lower on time graduations overall. I like the higher expectation that is put on the students but the community needs to be ready to see more 13th graders and drop outs. More than likely the community will blame the teachers, but the broad spectrum of students in these more rigorous classes will be the cause. Its a natural bell shaped curve that we are trying to shove to the upper side.
