Here are three more things you need to know about for Thursday, June 28:

• RB Idol: Are you in the Spirit of the Fourth yet? The annual RB Idol amateur talent competition is lined up for 7 p.m. Thursday, June 28 at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts, 15498 Espola Rd., Poway. The American Idol-style talent showcase will determine the community's "idol" who will perform during the Fourth of July festivities next week. Tickets are $10 beforehand (purchased from Marla Cruz at the by 3 p.m.) or $15 at the door. Each ticket gets you one vote. Attendees cannot buy additional tickets to get more votes (sorry moms and dads!) Last year's winner Matt Billman, and the runner-up Kristi Krause, also will be performing Thursday night.

• School Board Holds Special Meeting: The Poway Unified School District Board of Education has a special meeting at 4 p.m., Thursday, June 28 at the district office, 15250 Avenue of Science, San Diego. On the agenda: Grievance settlement regarding part-time employee pay; layoffs and hour reductions for some employees, in connection with the grievance settlement. (Full agenda attached.)

• RB Community Council to Meet: The council will welcome its newly elected members, and select officers during its 7 p.m. meeting on Thursday, June 28 at the Oaks North Community Center, 12578 Oaks North Dr. Also on the agenda: Residents can present themselves to fill open seats in Districts B (Eastview), D (Swim and Tennis), F (Bernardo Heights)    and the seat for a resident-at-large; water tower in Bernardo Heights for sale; Spirit of the Fourth; RB's 50th anniversary; bylaws changes.
