Giving Back: RB Historical Society

The Rancho Bernardo Historical Society was awarded $750 for its speaker series.

With Rancho Bernardo now celebrating is 50th birthday, there is no shortage of individuals and groups willing to help the community blow out its birthday candles.

But it seems the Rancho Bernardo Historical Society, in joining the celebration, may have stumbled upon the notorious "trick" candle: How does a group that celebrates RB's legacy all the time find a way to mix things up for a key milestone like this?

It just so happens they have a plan.

The Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation, at its annual , awarded the group a $750 grant that will help pay for an already popular, but soon to be expanded, speaker series chronicling RB history.

Nancy Canfield, a Historical Society board member, said the coming year will see speakers every month instead of bi-monthly, as happened this year. The series often packed the RB Historical Society Museum at the , especially a where a special RB timeline was previewed.

The grant will pay for modest speaker fees, making copies of handouts and other minor related expenses, Canfield said. The popularity of the series may push the events, on the first Friday of each month at 10 a.m. at the museum, outdoors during warmer months, she said.
