The Fourth of July celebrations in Rancho Bernardo are getting underway, with a special concert set for Wednesday night before the big parade and fireworks show featuring the RB Idol winner on the holiday.

The Spirit of the Fourth Celebration includes a number of activities, from a patriotic pet contest to a pancake breakfast. This year's theme is "Distinguished by Service—Honoring the Legion of Valor" in recognition of the Legion of Valor organization that pays tributes to the accomplishments of military veterans.

The big parade begins at 3 p.m. Thursday and runs along Acena Drive, Rancho Bernardo Road and Bernardo Center Drive. The celebration wraps up later that evening with live entertainment by Eve Selis, starting at 6 p.m., and performances from the winners of the RB Idol contest. This year, Poway High School's Justin Zakrajsek took the top prize. Rancho Bernardo High School's Samantha Belgum came in second, and Kylie MacLean of Hannalei Elementary came in third.

Fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Find more details at spiritofthefourth.org.
