PUSD Moves to Sell Water Tower Site

The board is expected to consider a resolution to open the property to bids during a 6 p.m. meeting

Updated 12:33 p.m. Tuesday with the Jan. 23 special meeting agenda attached. The agenda was sent out Tuesday morning after the story had been published.

The Poway Unified School District board is set to meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the district office, 15250 Avenue of Science, San Diego.

On the agenda:

  • Resolution to sell the water tower site (Item D-301): Rancho Bernardo residents have been asking the board to work with the City of San Diego to turn the site, about 11 acres of land at 16061 Avenida Venusto, into a park. But according to the agenda, the city has not been in touch with the district since July and district officials are now moving forward with a vote on a resolution to open up the property to bids. • Investigation into billion-dollar bond controversy: Superintedent John Collins is expected to announce the results of an independent investigation into the Capital Appreciation Bonds (CABs) sold to finance school fixes that now have local taxpayers on the hook for nearly $1 billion. District officials have been hushed about the details of the investigation and, according to a Voice of San Diego report, are going to go into further detail about the report during a later special meeting. The agenda mentions an upcoming special meeting for 4 p.m. Wednesday about the "legislative platform."

Regarding Patch's response to this comment: A 'typo' is when someone hits the wrong key on theRead More keyboard, like typing "Democrut" or "Demacrat." Calling a Democrat a Republican is a MISTAKE and party affiliation is very easy to check check these days. Maybe this is just a "blog," I'm not sure. But if it's a "news site", and the people writing stories are purporting to be "journalists" or "reporters" could easily do better and should do so. Let's not minimize a factual error in a "news" story as a "typo."
