Virtual Town Hall Questions for Ehab Shehata

Patch sent questionnaires to the candidates running in the 52nd Congressional District. The primary election is on Tuesday.

Patch: I’m a 37-year-old public school teacher, and every year I fear losing my job. Why should I vote for you?

Shehata: Because I am tired of our tax dollars going to fund wars and other special interest projects. Taxes are supposed to fund programs that benefit the taxpayers, and funding education is of more benefit than policing the world or fighting the wars of other nations.

Patch: I’m 26 and camped for weeks at Occupy San Diego, protesting a tax system that gives the rich huge breaks. Why should I vote for you?

Shehata: Because I agree that the tax system is broken. The middle class and poor are more affected by a tax system that takes more from them (as a proportion of overall wealth), and then does not deliver the social services that it promises. Ironically, the system serves to redistribute wealth from the least wealthy to the most wealthy! This is one of the ways by which the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer.

Patch: I’m 68 and can’t believe how Obama is moving this country toward a Socialist state. Why should I vote for you?

Shehata: Because I believe in limited government and protecting the Constitution.  The Constitution is not merely a historical document; it contains the principles by which our democracy must be governed.

Patch: I’m 45 and have been out of work for 14 months. I’m well-educated, but employers won’t even let me in the door. Why should I vote for you?

Shehata: Because I believe that economic growth is achievable through increasing American market share in the world. Instead of having a foreign policy that is based on war and the interest of foreign nations, we should have a foreign policy built on the American interest of expanding American markets far and wide. This involves sophisticated diplomacy, not guns and bullets.  Once we successfully expand our markets, American business will grow like they have never grown before.  This will lead to an increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and a plethora of new American jobs!  Please read more on my website www.shehataforcongress.com

Patch: I’m 18 and getting into the state university system is harder than ever—and more expensive? Why should I vote for you?

Shehata: For the reasons stated above. The reason for both of these problems is budget cuts in education services. I believe that our tax dollars are currently being spent on the wrong things.  Specifically, our taxes go to funding wars and projects that are supported by the special interests. These special interests, or PACs, control the political process by funding the election campaigns of politicians who have no desire or intention to represent the people of their district. Please vote for Dr. Ehab Shehata, M.D: the only special interests I have are the people of California’s 52nd Congressional District. 

Patch: I’m 81, and my grandchildren are joining the Navy. I fear another needless war will take them away. Why should I vote for you?

Shehata: Because I am not affiliated with any political party and I don’t take money from PACs. That gives me the independence to represent you in Washington!
