Virtual Town Hall Questions for Brian Maienschein

Maienschein: "In Sacramento, I will work to reverse the anti-business policies in place, reduce regulations, and prevent tax increases. The result will be an economy that can provide jobs for everyone."

Patch: I’m a 37-year-old public school teacher, and every year I fear losing my job. Why should I vote for you?

Maienschein: I have been endorsed by the entire Poway Unified School District School Board because education is a priority to me, and I will protect our local schools. I am a product of local public schools and my daughters are as well.  I was fortunate to receive a good education here, and will work to insure that opportunity continues to be afforded to our children.

Patch: I’m 26 and camped for weeks at Occupy San Diego, protesting a tax system that gives the rich huge breaks. Why should I vote for you?

Maienschein: Right now, Sacramento intends to raise taxes on all Californians—not just the rich. That means your taxes are at risk of going up. The current system has resulted in less tax revenues, and more service cuts.  I will work to prevent that—and any unnecessary tax increases on California working families—from happening.

Patch: I’m 68 and can’t believe how Obama is moving this country toward a Socialist state. Why should I vote for you?

Maienschein: I believe the individual is the best source for decisions on their own well being. San Diego’s economy, particularly in the high-tech, biotech, and life sciences field needs to be given the ability to create more jobs and improve our local economy. This will happen with a more job-friendly government, rather than a government that punishes job creation.

Patch: I’m 45 and have been out of work for 14 months. I’m well-educated, but employers won’t even let me in the door. Why should I vote for you?

Maienschein: This is a problem created by California’s ailing economy and the fact that countless businesses are fleeing our state every year. In Sacramento, I will work to reverse the anti-business policies in place, reduce regulations, and prevent tax increases. The result will be an economy that can provide jobs for everyone.

Patch: I’m 18 and getting into the state university system is harder than ever—and more expensive? Why should I vote for you?

Maienschein: Lately, the legislature continues to place higher education funding as the first item to be cut in order to balance the budget. I will always make education funding a priority and believe far less important programs should be cut before higher education.

Patch: I’m 81, and my grandchildren are joining the Navy. I fear another needless war will take them away. Why should I vote for you?

Maienschein: In this case, the California legislature has no jurisdiction over this issue. Nonetheless, I have worked with returning veterans to make sure they have the services available to them to protect their future. I created Project 25, which, in part, helps homeless veterans.  I understand the issues they face, and will continue to work on their behalf.

Patch: I’m 35 and see nothing happening in Sacramento or Washington to solve my problems. All I see are the extreme wings of both parties blaming each other and getting nothing done. Why should I vote for you?

Maienschein: My career is evidence of my ability to get things done.  I spearheaded the rebuilding of two communities after the wildfires, Scripps Ranch in 2003, and Rancho Bernardo in 2007.  The recovery center that I created is now a national model.  I also led the completion of State Route 56 which had languished for decades until I took office.  On issues large and small, I have shown I can work to get things done.
