Slater-Price Backs Dumanis for Mayor; More Support for Fletcher

San Diego County Supervisor Pam Slater-Price announced her support for District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis' mayoral campaign on Wednesday.

County Supervisor Pam Slater-Price on Wednesday became the latest elected official to endorse District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis in her bid for the San Diego mayor's job.

Slater-Price, who is leaving office after her current term, said Dumanis has demonstrated an ability to forge consensus and lead a large government organization.

"(Dumanis is) a dedicated public servant who turned around a troubled D.A.'s office by instituting a system of accountability and bringing people to the table," said Slater-Price, whose District 3 includes Rancho Bernardo and Rancho Peñasquitos. "I know she will do the same as mayor of San Diego."

Relationships Dumanis has developed at the county as its top prosecutor will help her as mayor of San Diego, the supervisor said. The District Attorney's Office is a division of county government.

Dumanis previously gained the backing of Slater-Price's colleague, Supervisor Ron Roberts, as well as current Mayor Jerry Sanders, Councilman Kevin Faulconer and Sheriff Bill Gore, among other elected officeholders.

Other candidates in the June 5 primary include Councilman Carl DeMaio, Rep. Bob Filner, D-San Diego, and Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, R-San Diego.

Fletcher, who , also has received the support of a group of Latino business professionals and entrepreneurs.

“We believe Nathan embodies a modern leadership ability that is required in a new age and tough times," said Miguel Contreras, the president of the group, Alianza, in a statement released by Fletcher's office Wednesday.

"We believe he is the best candidate for the Latino community and for small businesses alike. He serves the people and isn't afraid to cross party lines to do what is best."
