Report: San Diego Mayoral Candidates Oppose Red-Light Camera Program

Both Rep. Bob Filner and Councilman Carl DeMaio say they oppose the program, according to a local report.

San Diego mayoral candidates Bob Filner and Carl DeMaio can agree on one thing—they are both against the city's photo red-light program, according to a U-T San Diego report.

Rep. Filner told the newspaper that the program "gives way too much money to the private contractor and does not serve as a safety and education program." Meanwhile, Councilman DeMaio said he believes the program "may actually be increasing accidents at red light camera intersections as drivers slam on their brakes to avoid getting one of the fines," according to the newspaper.

The contract with the company who oversees the program ends in January, according to the newspaper.

Regarding Patch's response to this comment: A 'typo' is when someone hits the wrong key on theRead More keyboard, like typing "Democrut" or "Demacrat." Calling a Democrat a Republican is a MISTAKE and party affiliation is very easy to check check these days. Maybe this is just a "blog," I'm not sure. But if it's a "news site", and the people writing stories are purporting to be "journalists" or "reporters" could easily do better and should do so. Let's not minimize a factual error in a "news" story as a "typo."
