RB Community Council Recap: Fire Season, Redistricting and Recognition

The Council held its monthly meeting Thursday at the Rancho Bernardo Library.

The Rancho Bernardo Community Council met on Thursday evening.

Here is a recap of some of the meeting highlights:

  • Sidewalk Chalk Event: The Council played a slideshow of pictures from the event Saturday, which allowed children and adults to show off their artistic skills at the Rancho Bernardo Community Park. See galleries here: ; .
  • Elections: There are no contested races, and write-in candidates are not allowed, so the Council voted to only have absentee ballots.
  • Fire Season/Hot Weather: Capt. Chris Babler, from Fire Station No. 33 in RB, spoke about preparing for the upcoming fire season, which he said is expected to be active. Babler encouraged residents to clear brush from around their homes. As for warming weather, Babler urged residents not to leave children in cars and to stay hydrated, especially those taking medication.
  • San Diego County Redistricting: The Council unanimously approved a resolution in favor of keeping Rancho Bernardo in a single county district. A representative for Supervisor Pam Slater-Price said splitting the community into two different districts has been discussed.
  • Welcome Sign: Council President Robin Kaufman said she is planning to meet with Larry McIntyre to discuss new designs.
  • Community Recognition: Jerry Sack, the liaison to the city's Public Safety and Neighborhood Services committee, was recognized for his work in the community. Sack spoke about the successful, though delayed, installation of two stop signs on Acena Drive in Seven Oaks.
