Kersey will represent Rancho Bernardo and Rancho Peñasquitos in District 5 on the San Diego City Council.
Mark Kersey was sworn in as District 5's newest councilman on Monday. Kersey will represent Rancho Bernardo and Rancho Peñasquitos in the district, newly reshaped by redistricting. Previously, Rancho Peñasquitos was part of District 1.
Carl DeMaio, who most recently held the District 5 seat, lost his bid to be San Diego mayor's to former U.S. Rep. Bob Filner, who also was sworn in on Monday.
