News from Council District 5: The DeMaio Dispatch

Councilman Carl DeMaio's March newsletter talks city salaries, seniors and council pay.

San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio, who represents Rancho Bernardo, recently released his monthly newsletter for District 5, The DeMaio Dispatch.

Here's a look at some of the newsletter topics that relate to Rancho Bernardo (full newsletter attached):

  • More City Employees Join the "$100,000 Club": DeMaio released a report in March showing a 9 percent increase in the number of employees who make at least $100,000 per year. "As San Diegans continue to see worsening streets and unacceptable service levels, this analysis of city employee compensation shows that there is still plenty of room to trim city labor costs," the councilman said. ()
  • Council Says No to Pay Raise: The City Council, including DeMaio, voted against raising its own salaries despite a city staff recommendation to do so. "Voting to increase Council salaries during a time when our roads are falling apart and San Diego families are struggling to make ends meet would have sent the message to San Diego Taxpayers that their elected officials have their priorities wrong," DeMaio said in the newsletter. (.)
  • Seniors and Caregivers Seminar: On Thursday, DeMaio and local seniors organizations are putting on a series of seminars about caring for older family members and friends. (.)
