New Majority San Diego Endorses Fletcher

The New Majority said Fletcher "rose above the rest" of the San Diego mayoral candidates.

The San Diego chapter of The New Majority, a political action committee that supports business-friendly Republicans, announced its endorsement of Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher (R-San Diego) for mayor of San Diego on Thursday.

"In Nathan, we found the candidate who rose above the rest," board member Jonathan Bullen said, adding that "comprehensive interviews" were conducted with each candidate.

"He has a proven record of success and has shown that he has a unique ability to bring people together to get the job done. Nathan has the high level leadership skills and pragmatic experience needed to move San Diego into a new era and brighter future," Bullen said.

The New Majority previously endorsed Rancho Bernardo resident Mark Kersey for the District 5 seat on the San Diego City Council. Councilman Carl DeMaio, who currently represents District 5, also is running for mayor and said he will leave his seat at the end of this term.

Fletcher said he was "honored" to receive the group's endorsement.

"This endorsement is further evidence that San Diegans are ready for a new generation of leadership not tied to the polarization or status quo nature that defines City Hall," Fletcher said.
