About two-thirds of the second installment of property tax bills have not been paid in San Diego County, prompting Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister on Monday to urge landowners to file quickly so they don't get caught up in a last-minute rush.
Almost 979,000 bills were mailed out and nearly 617,000 still have an unpaid installment, McAllister said. Payments are due April 10.
"Our branch offices are all ready to serve our taxpayers," McAllister said. "We are expecting a busy week at the tax collector's office because we have more than 60 percent left of the second installment to collect. Pay early and avoid the rush."
He said the five county offices will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays to accommodate late filers.
The offices are located:
-- downtown, County Administration Center, 1600 Pacific Highway, Room 162;
-- Chula Vista, 590 Third Ave;
-- El Cajon, 200 S. Magnolia Ave;
-- Kearny Mesa, 9225 Clairemont Mesa Blvd.; and
-- San Marcos, 141 E. Carmel St.
McAllister said payments can also be made over the telephone at (877) 829-4732, or online at sdtreastax.com.
