Mayoral Candidate Spotlight: Bob Filner

U.S. Rep. Bob Filner (D-San Diego) heads into Tuesday's primary with Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher as perhaps his man to beat. Since Fletcher announced he was leaving the Republican Party to become independent in March, he has closed in on Filner who had been steadily trailing Councilman Carl DeMaio in the mayor's race. If none of the candidates receives more than 50 percent of the vote on Tuesday, the top two vote-getters will face off in November.

Filner's primary competitor, in addition to Fletcher and Filner, is District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis. Another lesser known candidates—Tobiah Pettus—also is in the race.
