Mayor-elect Bob Filner is holding a community event in Mira Mesa on Monday to celebrate his inauguration.

San Diego Mayor-elect Bob Filner has planned a series of public community events to celebrate his inauguration Monday, including one nearby in Mira Mesa.

Filner, along with new District 5 Councilman-elect Mark Kersey, is set to be sworn in during a public ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday in the Balboa Park Club Ballroom, 2144 Pan American Road West.

The mayor-elect plans to visit several schools and community centers throughout the rest of the day, including a stop between 5 and 7 p.m. at Mira Mesa High School, 10510 Reagan Rd., in the media center. This is the closest event to Rancho Bernardo.

Other scheduled events include stops at Patrick Henry High School, the La Jolla Playhouse and the San Diego LGBT Community Center.

Filner beat out Councilman Carl DeMaio, who represented RB in District 5, in the mayor's race. DeMaio opted not to run for a second term and backed Kersey to fill his seat. Kersey, in the post-redistricting District 5, also will represent Rancho Peñasquitos.
