Brian Maienschein, the former San Diego City Councilman who represented Rancho Bernardo in District 5 for two terms, is now running for a seat in the new state assembly District 77.
He will officially kick off his campaign with a public event at the Eastview Community Center, 17520 Drayton Hall Way in RB, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Maienschein, on his campaign website, said his top priority as an assemblyman would be to cut into California unemployment.
"State government can make a difference by removing regulatory hurdles that have stifled economic growth and driven California companies to other states, and by encouraging the development of more clean jobs in the hi tech and bio medical fields."
Maienschein joins the race against Dustin Steiner (R), R.J. Hernandez (D), and Greg Laskaris (No party preference), according to the California Secretary of State (PDF).
Editor's Note: This story has been updated to reflect that former candidates Loren Borenstein and Kevin Davis are not in the race, according to the California Secretary of State.
