Gov. Brown to Attend Slain Officer's Funeral Friday

Officer Jeremy Henwood died Sunday after being shot while on patrol the previous day.

Gov. Jerry Brown is scheduled to attend the Friday funeral of  San Diego police Officer Jeremy Henwood who was shot and killed while on duty last weekend, the latest in a series of tragedies for the department.

Brown tries to attend the funerals of all fallen law enforcement, a spokeswoman said. The governor at this point has no other meetings planned while he is in San Diego on Friday, she said.

Henwood, 36, after being shot in the head in City Heights the previous day while in his patrol car. The suspected shooter, 23-year-old Dejon Marquee White of San Diego, was shot and killed by police on Saturday. White is also suspected in an earlier shooting in El Cajon that left a man with serious injuries. Police said a suicide note was found at White's home.

Henwood's death comes on the heels of three other department deaths. On Aug. 1, Officer David Christopher Hall at his home. On July 18, Detective Donna Williams, a cornerstone of the Child Abuse Unit, was along with her 18-year-old daughter Briana. Williams' 24-year-old son has been charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths.

The last officer killed in the line of duty was Officer Christopher Wilson, 50, who was during a probation raid.
