Former Councilwoman Endorses Kersey

Rancho Bernardo businessman Mark Kersey has the support of former San Diego City Councilwoman Barbara Warden.

Former San Diego City Councilwoman Barbara Warden, who lives in Rancho Bernardo and served on the council from 1993-2000, is backing local businessman Mark Kersey for the District 5 seat, it was announced Tuesday.

"Mark has a great business background and knows that in order to solve the city’s budget and pension problems, we have to focus on making San Diego competitive,” Warden said in a statement released by the Kersey campaign. “San Diego needs serious people to implement pension reform and economic development policies and Mark has the tools to be a very effective leader. I’m proud to endorse him.”

Kersey, who also lives in Rancho Bernardo, is the founder of telecommunications consulting firm Kersey Strategies and is seeking the seat soon to be vacated by Councilman Carl DeMaio, who is running for mayor.

“I am grateful to Barbara for her support and for her leadership in San Diego,” Kersey said in a statement. “She is regarded as a straight-talking problem-solver, was a respected voice on the City Council, and has been a great asset to the region through the Downtown Partnership and as president of the Holiday and Poinsettia Bowls.”

Warden resigned from the City Council in August 2000 and joined broadcast company WINfirst.
