Endorsement: SD Police Chiefs Back Dumanis

Dumanis has received endorsements from several law enforcement groups.

District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis was endorsed Monday by the San Diego Police Chiefs and Sheriffs Association in her mayoral bid.

The organization is made up of federal, state and local law enforcement leaders in San Diego County, including a dozen police chiefs of cities around the region.

"You are a proven and recognized leader in the San Diego law enforcement and legal communities," association President David Bejarano, chief of the Chula Vista Police Department, said in an endorsement message to Dumanis. "Additionally, you have dedicated your professional life to public service and are representative of the many attributes which make "America's Finest City' the safe and proud community it has become today."

Dumanis has piled up a long list of endorsements from law enforcement organizations, including the California Narcotics Officers Association and California District Attorney Investigators Association. However, some other police groups have thrown support to one of her opponents in the June 5 primary election, Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, R-San Diego.

She also faces Councilman Carl DeMaio and Rep. Bob Filner, D-San Diego, among other candidates vying to become mayor of San Diego.
