Woman Comes Home to Intruders

Three men are accused of burglarizing a Rancho Peñasquitos woman's home.

Three young men were arrested Friday on suspicion of burglary a short time after a Rancho Peñasquitos woman returned from an outing to find intruders fleeing from her yard.

The burglary in the 12300 block of Picrus Street was reported about 11 a.m., according to San Diego police.

The resident described seeing the suspected burglars fleeing in a blue Ford Escort and was able to provide the license-plate number of the car, SDPD Sgt. Ray Battrick said.

Several minutes later, a patrol officer spotted the vehicle a short distance away and stopped it. The occupants -- Fyel Castaneda, 20; Matthew Weingel, 22; and 21-year-old Zain Zawed -- were detained, and the victim identified two of them as men she saw leaving her residence, the sergeant said.

Inside the car, officers found electronic appliance stolen from the victim's home, according to Battrick.
