Distracted Driver Flips Car, Hits Parked Cars

A man crashed on Rancho Bernardo Road late Wednesday after becoming distracted, police said.

A 26-year-old man flipped his car into a pair of parked cars on Rancho Bernardo Road late Wednesday after reaching down for his cell phone or the radio, police said.

The Vista man complained of pain after the crash and was transported to Pomerado Hospital with minor injuries, police said. No one else was injured.

The crash occurred just west of Bernardo Oaks Drive on Rancho Bernardo Road around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, police said. The man, heading westbound in a blue Volkswagen sedan, reached for his fallen cell phone or the radio and crashed into a truck and sedan parked along the north side of Rancho Bernardo Road, police said.

No one was in the parked cars, and no one came forward as a witness to the crash, officers said. Westbound drivers on Rancho Bernardo Road were diverted onto Bernardo Oaks Drive while the scene was cleared.

Police were still investigating whether alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
