The burn had been planned to clear brush near Jacumba.

Updated 11:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Plans for a brush-clearing prescribed burn near Jacumba were canceled Tuesday due to winds and low humidity.

Personnel from Cal Fire had been scheduled to set the blaze in McCain Valley about 9 a.m. and have it extinguished by 5 p.m., according to Cal Fire.

Just before the burn was to begin, Cal Fire issued a statement canceling it due to weather conditions. The announcement came after the National Weather Service issued an advisory earlier Tuesday, stating the winds and low humidity elevated the risk of wildfire in the county.

The prescribed burn was expected to be rescheduled.
