Burglar Hits 4 Bernardo Heights Garages In One Night

The SDPD believe the burglar may have been on foot.

Four garages on the same block in Bernardo Heights were broken into in about 8 hours on the evening of April 24, San Diego Police Community Relations Officer Susan Steffen said during the Rancho Bernardo Community Council meeting Thursday night.

According to Steffen, the crimes were committed on the 16400 block of Avenida Venusto on April 24 from 11 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. the next day. All the garages were closed, with some labeled as "detached."

In the first incident, an unknown suspect entered an unattached garage and removed tools and DVD screens from an unlocked car inside, Steffen said.

The next two incidents showed no forced entry and in one case, gift cards, a baseball hat, drill and gloves from an unlocked car were taken. One of the incidents did not see any loss, just displaced golf clubs.

"This tells us it might be someone on foot," Steffen said. "They were already loaded down.”

The fourth incident hasn't reported any loss.

The officer said no car was seen and there is no suspect info.

According to Steffen, they suspect the burglar may have entered the garage similar to the way shown in this YouTube video.

There are ways to keep your closed garage safer, as seen in various YouTube videos provided by the RB Community Council.
