Muscular Dystrophy fundraising art auction and wine tasting

RANCHO BERNARDO FINE ART AUCTION AND WINE TASTING

WILL RAISE FUNDS FOR MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY RESEARCH

A charity wine tasting and fine art auction will be held at Bernardo Heights Country Club (BHCC) in Rancho Bernardo on Friday evening, November 15, to raise money for the FSH Society. That organization supports research into the treatment and cure of FSH muscular dystrophy and also provides informational services to patients and families of those afflicted with the disease.

The wine tasting and viewing of the art to be auctioned will begin at 6:00 p.m., and the live auction will start at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the event is $35 per person, payable at the door. Space is limited, so reservations are requested and can be made by calling 858-487-4022, extension 120.

The artwork is being supplied by local artists, among them Amy Zoe Bekier, Maggie Buckenmayer, Pat Dispenziere, Shelly Dyer, Jean Fleshler, James Harnsberger, Laura Elena Kim, Steve Letz, Pilar Montano, Noya Ostroviak, Clementine Porzak, Steve Rockwood and Louise Sackett.

Music at the event will be provided by Elly Leslie on the piano. Appetizers will be prepared and served by BHCC's culinary crew. The Barrel Room, a wine bar and bistro located in Rancho Bernardo's Plaza Shopping Center, will be furnishing wines of half a dozen California boutique wineries from Napa, Sonoma, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.

The auctioneer will be Obba Babatunde, a well known actor and a protege of Sammy Davis Jr. who played Davis in "Sammy: Once in a Lifetime,"  a musical that had its premiere at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre. Babatunde's impressive stage and television performances have earned him both Tony and Emmy award nominations.

Fifty percent of the auction proceeds and a portion of the admission fee go to the FSH Society. FSH is an acronym for facio-scapulo-humeral, a form of muscular dystrophy that initially attacks and progressively weakens the muscles of the face (facio), shoulder girdle (scapulo) and upper arms (humeral).

BHCC is located at 16066 Bernardo Heights Parkway.
