LA Theatre Works, Susan Albert Lowenberg, Producing Director The Graduate
When The
Graduate was published in 1963, America was in an “age of
youth.” Young people were leading the
way to social, political and cultural change, and Charles Webb’s novel was
groundbreaking in its ability to capture those changing times. In 1967, The
Graduate film was released, featuring the iconic, boyish face of Dustin
Hoffman as the lost but heroically determined Benjamin Braddock. The film
became a cult favorite, an artistic triumph, and one of the top grossing films
in history. Now, L.A. Theatre Works, a Los Angeles –based
theater company whose mission is to match classic stories with headline actors,
introduces a new stage version of The Graduate.
Past L. A. Theatre Works productions have
included Ed Asner, Hillary Swank, Eric Stoltz, James Cromwell, Sharon Gless and
Hector Elizando. And while we won’t know
the stars of this production until December of 2013 (join our email list at
powayarts.org to be the first to find out!), it promises to be a top-notch
production and a fresh new take on this American classic. Still today, fifty
years after The Graduate, we all continue to ask the same question… “what does
the future hold?”
