Addiction and Alcoholism: The Living Losses featuring Ken Druck Ph.D., Scott H. Silverman and Phil Milgram, M.D..

Jewish Family Service’s Counseling and Behavioral Health Committee in partnership with the North Coastal Jewish Connections is  hosting Addiction and Alcoholism: The Living Losses. Ken Druck Ph.D, Scott H. Silverman, and Phil Milgram, M.D.  are the keynote speakers for the event.

Ken Druck, Ph.D. is one of the nation’s pioneers in personal transformation, having broken ground in healing after loss, navigating “living losses,” and, most recently, turning adversity into opportunity. In addition to being the Founder of the Jenna Druck Center, Dr. Druck has earned countless accolades as a speaker, coach, writer, educator, consultant, and community leader, including the “Distinguished Contribution to Psychology” and “Visionary Leadership” awards.

Scott H. Silverman is the Founder of Second Chance and author of Tell Me No, I Dare You!. His achievements were recognized nationally in March 2008 when he was named one of CNN’s “Heroes” for his work with the homeless and ex-offender populations.

Phillip Milgram, M.D., CCPS has practiced clinical medicine for more than 30 years. He is Medical Director and CEO of The Lifescore Clinic. Dr. Milgram holds degrees in General Counseling, Alcohol and Drug Counseling, and Advanced Intervention, with emphasis on relapse dynamics and prevention, denial management counseling, and codependency and enabling in family members of addicts.

One of the powerful, yet little known, truths that Dr. Ken Druck writes about in The Real Rules of Life is that we grieve for the people we love and care about while they’re alive, and that many of our worst losses are “living losses.” The pain and suffering associated with alcoholism and drug addiction are immeasurable. Loving someone whose life has been turned inside out by drugs and/or alcohol is a living hell.

In this workshop, our experts will provide concrete, proven strategies to understand alcoholism and addiction. Attendees will learn where to turn to for help, how to develop and implement a plan for taking care of themselves, “process” their grief in healthy ways, reduce their guilt, and confront their own enabling behavior. This program is designed to help participants summon the strength and clarity to reclaim their own lives whether or not the person they care about remains sober.

The event is free as long as you register by July 24th, 2013. Advanced registration is required. To register for the event, please visit www.jfssd.org/addiction
