Weekend Ramp Closures Hit I-15, State Route 56

Ramp closures will affect traffic on Interstates 805 and 15, and State Route 56 at varying points through Monday.

Caltrans crews will close the Interstate 805 on- and off-ramps at westbound Clairemont Mesa Boulevard on Friday night to allow for renovation work on the connectors, the state agency advised.

Starting at 9 p.m, personnel will begin the pavement-grinding project, which is designed to extend the life of the driving surface on the roadways, according to Caltrans spokesman Hayden Manning. Message signs will be posted in advance of the closure to detour northbound travelers to the next exit, he said.

The ramps are scheduled to reopen at 5 p.m. Saturday.

At the same time, meanwhile, three ramps at Interstate 15 and State Route 56 will be closed to prepare for the addition of another northbound lane. Those ramps are slated to reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.

Northbound motorists who need to exit I-15 to eastbound Ted Williams Parkway will be detoured to Carmel Mountain Road, where they will head east, then turn south on Rancho Carmel Drive.

Motorists who have to merge from I-15 to westbound SR-56 will be detoured at the Rancho Peñasquitos Boulevard exit, where they will then head west to access the latter freeway.

Drivers heading north on I-15 from SR-56 will be detoured onto Ted Williams Parkway to turn north on Rancho Carmel Drive, then west on Carmel Mountain Road to reach the northbound I-15 onramp.

Finally, drivers on westbound Ted Williams parkway will be detoured north to Rancho Carmel Drive, then west on Carmel Mountain Road to access the northbound I-15 onramp.

The work is scheduled for the weekend to disrupt traffic as little as possible, according to Caltrans.
