Temperatures Might Hit Triple Digits

It's going to be a hotter than usual start to the work week throughout most of San Diego County on Monday, with temperatures soaring into the triple digits, forecasters said.

High pressure over Utah will spur a warming trend that will cause temperatures in Southern California early this week to be 8 to 12 degrees above average for this time of year, according to the National Weather Service.

The agency urged residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activity, if possible. It also warned against leaving children or pets in an enclosed vehicle, even briefly.

Due to the weather, Cal Fire issued a no burn proclamation Monday morning, meaning the use of any open fire in the county is forbidden until further notice.

Temperatures are expected to peak between 95 and 105 degrees in the inland valleys; 90 and 100 in the mountains below 6,000 feet; 75 and 90 in the mountains above 6,000 feet; 115 and 120 in the lower deserts; and 100 and 110 in the upper desserts.

"This weather could be deadly for unprepared campers or hikers," according to an NWS advisory.

Forecasters said humidity levels will increase by mid-week thanks to monsoonal moisture, slightly lowering temperatures beginning on Wednesday.
