Rancho Bernardo Girls Overcome Tough Loss to Win CIF Softball Title

It was a balanced attack for the Broncos, who banged out 13 hits en route to their nine runs.

The Rancho Bernardo High School softball team knows what revenge tastes like, and my, is it sweet.

After squandering an eight-run lead to Bonita Vista in the CIF San Diego Division 3 winners’ bracket final, en route to an 18-17 loss, the Broncos rallied back to beat the Barons 9-4 in Saturday’s championship game, earning their first section title since 2009.

It was especially rewarding given the top-seeded Barons’ recent success against RB, including beating them in the CIF Final a year ago.

“After our loss in the (winners bracket final) in the last inning, it was so devastating,” senior Danielle Knoetze told Pomerado News. “It just made us want this 10 times more than before, especially because we lost to Bonita Vista in this game last year, too. It just made us give it everything we have out there.”

It was a balanced attack for the Broncos, who banged out 13 hits en route to their nine runs.

Knoetze had three hits and two runs scored. Brianna Burchianti (1 RBI), Tori McIntyre (2 RBIs), Ashley Moore (1 RBI) and Tiana Miller all added two hits for the Broncos as well.

“I think we have gotten closer to a title every year,” coach Summer Boyle told Pomerado News after the game. “We lost in the final last year and then the previous year in the semifinals. It has been a long time coming and honestly this is the best group of girls. It is pretty special. They worked their behinds off all year and they really do deserve this.”

Rancho Bernardo finished the year with a 25-8 record.
