What to Do With Old Prescription Drugs

Locals have a few nearby locations where they can drop off unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications all year.

A no-questions-asked prescription drug takeback day over the weekend brought in 7,000 pounds of pills county officials say are often in danger of falling into the hands of teens and others who may abuse them.

While these National Prescription Drug Takeback Days so far only happen every six months—a collaborative project between the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and local law enforcement—there are options for dropping off unwanted pills year-round:

Here's where you can take unwanted or expired pills in the county and city of San Diego and leave them in designated drop off boxes. (Please note that the dropoffs are only for prescription and over-the-counter medications and not other drugs, sharps/needles and medical supplies.)
