Nearly 5,000 Votes Cast for Welcome Sign; Noticeable Spike After Survey Flaw Revealed

The day before voting ends, more than six times as many votes have been cast as in the first round of voting.

More than six times as many votes have been cast for the community's new welcome sign with one more day of voting left, a spike survey administrators attribute to the public revelation of a survey flaw.

By Wednesday morning, 4,969 votes had been cast in an online survey to determine the design of Rancho Bernardo's new welcome sign, according to the San Diego North Chamber of Commerce which is administering the survey.

There was a noticeable spike in the votes cast after Patch on March 25 confirming many people's suspicions that it was possible to vote more than once, the Chamber said, though survey committee members had said they designed the survey to prevent repeat voting.

The nearly 5,000 votes represent six times more votes than the 824 votes cast in a first round of voting in February between three design choices, which was open for four weeks. This round of voting has only been open for two weeks, and there are only two choices.

Voting closes Thursday at 11:59 p.m. at RefreshRB.com.
