Jaywalkers Beware: SDPD's Looking for You

Police will be looking for people walking against red lights and committing other violations amid rising pedestrian fatalities.

Watch where you're walking Thursday.

San Diego police have planned a special detail from 7 a.m.* to midnight Thursday at various locations around the city to address an increase of pedestrian fatalities in recent years where the pedestrian was at fault. Last month, six pedestrians were killed; in five of the cases, the pedestrian was to blame, according to a San Diego Police Department news release.

"This detail will consist of Traffic officers issuing traffic citations and traffic warnings, as well as providing verbal education on pedestrian violations," the release stated. "The goal of the detail is to raise awareness of the pedestrian public on the dangers associated with violating pedestrian traffic laws and/or distracted walking while interacting with motor vehicles in motion."
