Gas Prices Jump Heading into the Weekend

Average gas prices rose four-tenths on Friday.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose four-tenths of cent Friday to $4.106, one day after dropping by the same amount.

The average price is one-tenth of a cent more than one week ago, 31.1 cents higher than one month ago and 37 cents greater than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

"The price spike in early August means that Labor Day weekend travelers will be paying the highest gas prices ever for that holiday," said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.

"There are some forces at work that could further nudge up prices, such as crude oil trading near $100 a barrel, but at the moment, local prices are holding steady."
