Freeway Crashes Triple on Rainy Day

Officials reported a much higher than average number of crashes on Monday.

The California Highway Patrol reported more than 160 crashes around San Diego County throughout a rainy Monday to start this week.

Crashes peaked during the two-hour period of 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday with 47, nearly equalling the average full-day total of 50 to 75 on a typical "good weather" day.

Overall, there were 166 crashes reported on county freeways and unincorporated roads between midnight and 6 p.m. Monday.
