Update: Wildfire Warning Canceled

Strong winds still expected.

Updated 12:18 p.m. Wednesday with warning canceled.

Improving climatic conditions prompted the National Weather Service on Wednesday to cancel a previously planned "red flag'' warning about high wildfire danger that had been anticipated in San Diego County starting Wednesday evening.

The alert, prompted by forecasts for high winds coupled with low humidity levels, had been slated for mountain and inland-valley areas Wednesday night and Thursday.

Late Wednesday morning, the NWS advised that local conditions no longer were expected to meet red-flag criteria, though gusts up to 35 mph were still possible and "very dry conditions will still exist beginning this evening.''

The wildfire alert was still scheduled to go into effect Wednesday night for coastal Orange County communities, the Santa Ana Mountains and San Bernardino- area highland locales.
