Flash Flood Watch Issued for RB; Strong Winds Expected

Heavy rain and strong winds are expected Sunday night.

A flash flood watch has been issued for Rancho Bernardo, and weather officials warn that strong winds Sunday night could cause downed power lines and make driving difficult.

The flash flood watch—which means conditions that lead to flash flooding may develop—is in effect from Sunday evening until late into the night, according to the National Weather Service. There is a 100 percent chance of rain, and thunderstorms are possible after 11 p.m. Sunday, according to the NWS.

The NWS also has issued a wind advisory for Rancho Bernardo, in effect from 3 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Monday. The stongest winds are expected during the evening and late night with south to southeast winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph.

Drivers also are urged to watch out for broken tree limbs in the road. Rain is also forecast for Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Those in the affected area are urged to be ready to take quick action if a flash flood warning is issued or flooding is observed. Flash Flood Warning Signifies a dangerous situation where rapid flooding of small rivers, streams, creaks, or urban areas are imminent or already occurring. Very heavy rain that falls in a short time period can lead to flash flooding, depending on local terrain, ground cover, degree of urbanization, degree of man-made changes to river banks, and initial ground or river conditions.
