Caltrans Shutting Down I-15 Express Lanes Connector to SR-56

Officials say the exit ramp is no longer needed because the Express Lanes now run both north and south all day.

On Friday, Caltrans is permanently closing an exit ramp allowing southbound Interstate 15 Express Lanes drivers to connect to State Route 56/Ted Williams Parkway.

The ramp, built in 2008, currently allows drivers to leave the Express Lanes and enter the main lanes on I-15 near SR-56. With the ramp closing, drivers who are used to exiting at that point to access the Rancho Peñasquitos Boulevard/Poway Road and Scripps Poway Parkway/Mercy Road interchanges will need to exit the Express Lanes at Camino del Norte instead.

Officials, in a statement, said the closing exit ramp is no longer needed due to recent changes to the Express Lanes. The lanes were recently expanded to allow north- and southbound traffic 24 hours a day, seven days a week; Previously, reversible express lanes were open to northbound peak hour traffic.
