A Look at What's Happening at the Other San Diego Patches

It was a busy week across San Diego with horses and hiking and misunderstood poinsettias.

It has been a big week for Patch. On Monday, the 12th San Diego County Patch launched in Ramona. Later in the week, the 500th Patch in the country went live.

Now that the initial cluster of San Diego Patches have all arrived, I'd like to share some stories from Around the Patch that I think may be interesting to the Rancho Bernardo community. If you see anything that you'd like to see on RB Patch, or if any story gives you an idea, be sure to let me know.

Photographer Paul Gallaher has a beautiful gallery of what he calls the five best hiking trails in Poway. The photo with this column comes from his gallery.

Here's a review of a musical called "13" by L.A.-based Tony Award-winning composer-lyricist Jason Robert Brown about a teen who suddenly has to be the "new kid in town." There isn't much time left to catch the musical, which is running through Sunday at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center in La Jolla.

Poinsettias are so misunderstood. Patch writer Genevieve Suzuki tours Paul Ecke Ranch in Encinitas to learn more about the plant, including the variety called "Ice Punch.

How's this for a goal: raising $90,000 within the next year so you and your seventh-grade peers can go to the sixth-grade camp that was canceled last year because of budget cuts? The "businessman inside of a kid's body" that is 13-year-old Marquis Snowden from Palm Middle School has taken up that task.
