5 Things You Need to Know Today

Quick notes on the City Council, housing sales and a police officer's arrest.

Here are some quick notes on San Diego happenings:

1. The San Diego City Council on Tuesday voted to transfer control of more than 130 properties from the Redevelopment Agency to the city. The night before, the Council had decided to wait to approve the transfer pending further information on what risks the city would be subject to. But when word came that Gov. Jerry Brown's budget proposal, which phases out redevelopment agencies, would be put to a vote Wednesday, the Council decided to reconsider Monday's action. The properties are worth a combined $250 million. Councilman Carl DeMaio, who represents Rancho Bernardo in District 5, voted against the transfer.

2. The San Diego County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted to support legislation that would require the governor to give 30 days notice to an associated district attorney before reducing the sentence of a convicted criminal. The legislation, co-sponsored by Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher (R-San Diego) who represents Rancho Bernardo, comes after a controversial commutation at the end of former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's term. For more on the legislation, .

3. The median price of a San Diego County home was $308,000 in February, down 4.3 percent from a year ago when the median price was $322,000 according to MDA DataQuick. Home sales also dropped year-over-year by 5.5 percent. "The January and February sales data can be interesting, but we always caution that historically they've been a poor barometer for the rest of the year," DataQuick President John Walsh said.

4. The community's Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee met Tuesday night in High Country West. A guest speaker discussed possible budget cuts for lifeguarding services.
