Help California Seniors: Support Code 402

Who better than seniors to research and write legislation to help seniors here in California? What a concept, right? Fortunately it’s true. The California Senior Legislature (CSL) is just the group doing that work!  It seems logical that seniors would

know best what seniors need in order to sustain a healthy and safe lifestyle.

housing, and elder abuse  are examples of what CSL researches and then submits via proposals the regular California legislature can address.

Since its establishment in 1979, CSL 40 senior senators and 80 senior assembly members who were elected by their peers represent all of California - has submitted over 300 legislative proposals to the California State legislature; and 192 have actually been signed into law by the governor(s).  Such success proves that the CSL has been more than useful in providing model legislation for our aging population.

However, the future of the CSL is in jeopardy.  Funding for this organization is provided via the Franchise Tax Board on their check-off option under Contributions (side 4 of Form 540 C1).  The CSL is listed as Code 402-"California Fund for Senior Citizens" in this section.

The CSL must raise a minimum of $250,000 in donations to Code 402 on the 2013 State Income Tax Form.   If this requirement is not met, there is a very strong possibility that the organization could be removed from this critical source of funding.

We urge the public to support the California Senior Legislature by making a tax deductible contribution on the state income tax return, under Contribution: California Fund for Senior Citizens - Code 402.
