RB Tastings Returns This Weekend

RB Tastings brings local restaurants, artists and businesses together in an effort to raise money for the Rancho Bernardo Historical Society.

After a nine-year hiatus, the annual RB Tastings is returning Sunday and will be held at the Bernardo Winery, the home of the Rancho Bernardo Historical Society. Complete with food, music, art and more, the event aims to highlight local businesses while helping cover the Society’s overhead costs.

“This was a tradition in Rancho Bernardo that lasted 14 years,” said Gary Powers, the volunteer chair for the event. “I decided to bring it back because it was popular and we needed something to help raise funds for the RB Historical Society.”

Planning for the fundraiser began in June, and 85 volunteers will be working the event―a fraction compared to how many are expected to attend.

“We are expecting between 1,000 and 1,200 to attend,” Powers said. “Ticket sales are brisk and over 500 now.”

Operational costs for the Society are exceeding its income, and if the trend continues it would mean moving the museum away from its prime location at the winery. Powers says enough money would be raised to satisfy a year’s rent if each Society member attended or sponsored the event, like several businesses in the area.

Tickets can be purchased online and are $15 per person or $25 for two in advance, and $20 or $35 at the door. A complimentary logo wine glass is included in this price. The event runs from noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 2.
