Sony's RB Office Set To Lay Off 130 Employees in April
The San Diego Daily Transcript reports the move is an effort to reduce operating costs for Sony Electronics.
The Sony Electronics main office in Rancho Bernardo will have 130 fewer employess come April, thanks to the second major company layoff in 12 months, the San Diego Daily Transcript reported this week.
The publication said the company filed a notice with California, noting that the employees would be laid off on April 26 due to a "competitively charged consumer electronics marketplace."
The move comes after plans to reduce operating costs for Sony Electronics, a division of Sony Corp. of America (NYSE: SNE). Sony's last large local layoff came in March 2012, affecting 80 employees, the Daily Transcript said.

What started as a color TV assembly in 1972 in Rancho Bernardo with fewer than 10 employees has beccome a Sony hub, the Daily Transcript reported, with 94 acres and eight buildings that house engineers, marketers and various managers.
Today there are more than 2,000 employees remaining at the campus, according to the company.
