Italian Delight in Six Locales

Vigilucci's is Patch's "Bites Nearby" pick of the week.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Rancho Bernardo Patch picks a great place to eat either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

As Roby Vigilucci’s Italian food empire continues to grow, so does my ardor for his cozy Leucadia pizzeria. Vigilucci’s Ristorante & Pizzeria’s patio pays homage to the sweet outdoor spaces found in eateries across Italy and the South of France.

The menu? Only typical in name: pizzas, pastas, salads, focaccia and meat dishes.

Two to try: the Pizza Genovese and Vodka Penne. The delicious calzones rival Shaq’s shoes in size.

The adjoining Robbie’s, featuring a different spelling of the owner’s name (for upon his transition from Italy to San Diego he found the "ie" spelling more common) does the stomach good with a spicy poke salad: fresh raw tuna marinated in Roby’s secret dressing.

Happy hour is served at Robbie’s from 4 to 7 p.m. and Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition, Roby supports local musicians, who perform seven nights a week, 6:30 to 10 p.m.

If you can't make it into Vigilucci’s in Leucadia, look for the eatery in Carlsbad, Encinitas, and too.

Vigilucci's is listed among Larios' favorite places to eat on foodhuddle.com.
