RB Alive! Expo Set for Sunday

Tens of thousands are expected to attend, and several local groups are scheduled to perform. Take a peek at the schedule inside.

Summer in Rancho Bernardo unofficially kicks off during the 23rd annual RB Alive! Expo on Sunday.

Organized by the San Diego North Chamber of Commerce, the annual street fair is expected to draw upwards of 50,000 attendees between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday.

“It’s not just for Rancho Bernardo, it brings a lot of North County together,” said Gayle Dunsmore, the entertainment coordinator. “There’s a good amount of people that visit it each year, and the chamber puts it together very well.”

The expo is expected to feature about 250 booths and a classic car show. The Kids Zone will offer carnival games, rides and food, the Cultural Center will provide historical reenactments and the Art Center will show off performing arts, music and visual arts.

“The vendors are not just from this area, they’re from all over,” Dunsmore said. “So you have a day of seeing things that you may not normally see.”

The RB Alive! Expo will showcase a variety of acts, from music to martial arts, on two stages throughout the day.

Three acts will perform for about two hours each on the Food Court Stage. The Rancho Bernardo Community Band will begin the show at 10 a.m. Exit Only will follow the band at noon, and solo acoustic guitarist Tom Boyer will be the final act at 2 p.m.

On the Bernardo Center Drive Stage, local Boy Scouts will present the colors and Gwyn Sanborn, the president of the West Coast Country Music Association and host of “Country at the Merc” in Temecula, will sing the National Anthem at 10 a.m. to kick off the entertainment. Almost a dozen shorter acts, including local dancers, gymnasts, martial artists and musicians will follow.

“We’ve got a pretty good variety of entertainment,” Dunsmore said.

RB Alive! Expo will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, along Bernardo Center Drive between Bernardo Plaza Court and Lomica Drive in Rancho Bernardo. Admission is free.

“I’m hoping the weather stays nice and we have a smooth day,” Dunsmore said. “I think it’s going to be a great day, from start to finish.”
