Homegrown Musician Jorandy Chavez Loves to Sing About Love

Jorandy Chavez is trying to make his mark on the world of music. He recently shot a music video for his debut single, "You're Everything."

Turn on the radio and at least a handful of songs blasting away have no soul. They’re empty words with recycled beats equivalent to junk food. Real music acts as the language of our emotions. Rancho Bernardo resident Jorandy Chavez, a talented architect of music, gives us a refreshing sound that embodies the best version of what music can be.

“I've been surrounded by music from the early days when my mom used to do aerobics to her '80s mixtapes, but it wasn’t till the age of 9 that I took my first leap into playing it," said Chavez, who performs simply as "Jorandy."

Jorandy said his passion for music started building the day he was born. His friends and family have always noticed his musical creativity and talent, and their collective push helps encourage his drive. Longtime friend, Alexand Aguilar, has always appreciated his musical talent.

"I've known Jorandy since elementary school and even back then I could see how talented he was. When Jorandy played the piano, I was in awe [of] what he could play at such a young age," Aguilar said.

"He has only gotten better since our days and I would not be surprised if Jorandy's fan base expands in the near future," Aguilar said.

Now, at the age of 24, Jorandy has built a museum of musical skills and also earned a bachelor's degree in graphic design at the Art Institute of California, where he learned to design, market and advertise. His music is a layered mix of unique sounds and vocals that smoothly mesh together.

“If you know how a 1970s Yamaha-Electone organ, Takamine guitar, Lanikai ukulele, beat-boxing, R&B vocals, and rapping sound like compiled together, then you'd probably have a good idea of how my music sounds, ” Jorandy said.

The genre of music Jorandy is focused on is love songs, as he mentioned that he is completely captivated by songs that are driven by the complexities of that universal feeling. Like any truly devoted artist, he uses his life experiences to spark his musical creativity.

“A lot of my music has to deal with falling in love or losing a love. I've always been so amazed and wondered how Sinatra was able to write hundreds of love songs in his days. And then it hit me: to write a hundred love songs you have to fall in love a hundred times. So that’s exactly what I do," Jorandy said.

He also named one of his musical influences who was a master of expressing that timeless feeling of love.

“As a hopeless and helpless romantic, a lot of my musical influences come from the classic days where you had to win a girl's heart the old-fashioned way. Nat King Cole is an artist that brings that back to life for me,” Jorandy said.

Jorandy has exposed his musical talents in such places as Earthbound Radio in downtown San Diego and The Metaphor Café in Escondido.

"Being able to perform live shows and shoot music videos has been a huge musical accomplishment for me, especially being able to do them in front of my parents. It's a peace of mind for them to know that all the early morning and late-night noise they used to put up with while I was growing up is heading in the right direction," Jorandy said.

Recently, Jorandy shot a music video for his single debut, entitled "You're Everything." The music video was helmed by director Gary Jones and the Jet Pack Creative production company. Jorandy was shot at an undisclosed stage, previously made famous by the likes of American Idol star , as well as Tom Cruise in his Maverick days.

The single was birthed by Jorandy himself, as he wrote, sang, rapped, and edited "You're Everything."

"It's a song about finally expressing how infatuated you are towards a girl you've been friends with for a while," Jorandy explained.

The music video for "You're Everything" will be released in March. In the meantime, here is something to hold you over.
