Patch's Picks: Where to Get Your St. Paddy's Day Green On!

No excuses to stay in! Here are five fabulous spots right next door for green drinks, corned beef and more lucky fun than you can handle!

Aaah, St. Patrick's Day—one of the major holidays combining the best of several others. You can eat like it's Thanksgiving, dress up like it's Halloween (green strongly recommended), and drink like it's Oktoberfest. Score!

Starting as a feast day as early as the 17th century, St. Patrick's Day has become one of the busiest days for bars and restaurants, with some, namely Irish pubs, going even more all out than others. If you're up for getting in touch with your true (or hypothetical) Irish roots, here are five local hot spots for some good eatin', good drinkin' and good pinchin' of that cute stranger who's not wearing green.

  • Kelly’s Public House: Get there early and be one of the first 100 customers to get a free St. Patrick's Day T-shirt. Also, enjoy Irish food, music and drink specials.
  • They may specialize in French bistro cuisine, but you'll definitely want to try their signature corned beef and cabbage lunch special for $14.50 and their 3-course St. Patrick's day dinner from 4:30-10 p.m.
  • For a guaranteed celebration, come to Hooters starting at 9 a.m. for the March Madness games then compete in their “Pop-A-Shot” basketball tournaments to win a St. Paddy's Day prize pack. Then, replenish your thirst with green domestic beer and other Miller and Coors specials. The Hooters girls will also be dressed up for the green occasion.
  • Urge American Gastro Pub: For a fun, laid back atmosphere, come to Urge and enjoy corned beef and cabbage all day, Irish beers and $1 off pint specials.
  • : The Veranda Bar & Grill will be having its Thursday “Tunes and Taste” from 6-8 p.m. with a St. Patrick's Day theme. Enjoy live music and a $16 taste plate that includes cottage pie, cabbage-wrapped corned beef and a shot glass filled with Guinness and vanilla ice cream.
