Donate Your Prom Dress to the ‘Princess Project’

Through April 20, San Diego County libraries are collecting prom dresses that can be given to young women who may not be able to afford them.

Get a jumpstart on your spring cleaning and make a difference in a local teen's life—donate a gently-used formal gown to San Diego County Library for their annual Prom Dress Drive and Gown Giveaway. Dresses can be dropped off at any San Diego County Library branch between now and April 20. The Gown Giveaway events are taking place on April 20 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Vista (700 Eucalyptus Ave.) and El Cajon (201 E Douglas Ave.) libraries. Dresses will be matched with a local teen (grades 9-12) in need, helping make high school formals affordable. Sign-ups for teens begin April 1 by calling the library or visiting princessproject.org.

Both libraries are in need of gently-used formal gowns that are less than five years old and in good condition. All sizes and styles are needed. Last year, the libraries had 200 teens attend the giveaway event. The Prom Dress Drive and Gown Giveaway events are sponsored by the Princess Project, a non-profit organization devoted to promoting self-confidence and individual beauty by providing free prom dresses to high school girls in need.
